| A lazy after the holidays day |

The kids and I have been pretty dull today, they've been playing the Wii on and off, I did too, now my wings hurt from playing the flying chicken game on Wii Fit Plus. LOL My back was sore before, let's say it's not any better now. LOL I like the new game though, I was through all the stuff on the Wii Fit that I could do, so this is a nice addition. Just waiting for eBay to have a cheap listing day and I'm going to list some games to sell, then the kids can use that money to buy any other games they want.
We haven't done any visiting, as normal, we've had company a few times, Doug's parents were down, Charles and Carolyn and Jeff and Kelly have been here a few times. Doug's niece Celeste that is home from Ont. came and stayed with us Saturday night and went to the wedding party with us. Michelle and Tommy had a very nice wedding, she looked beautiful! It was a nice night so nobody had to worry about driving in a mess, I was our DD, which doesn't bother me at all, I haven't had a drink since summer, I don't want to take a chance with the meds that I'm on.
Not much else going on, the kids are bored, as usual, I'll be glad when next Monday comes, they won't be bored then, will they. heheh

Season 2 Episode 14 - Grace Under Pressure
I just adore McKay and this episode is so funny with him trapped under the ocean and hallucinating Samantha Carter :D
Season 3 Episode 4 - Sateda
How can you not love Ronan, and seriously the boy takes out like 25 wraith with a piece of glass in this episode!
Season 3 Episode 15 - The Game
I love McKay and Sheppard's little battle over the computer game, and especially the effects it had on the people. Like the poison of citrus!
Season 5 Episode 19 - Vegas
I was so confused when I first started watching this episode. I thought I had the wrong show, but turned out SGA was doing a CSI like episode. Very cool |

| Sanctuary Season 2 Episodes 1 - 10 |

Well I worked my way through the first 10 episodes of Season 2 of Sanctuary while playing Guild Wars today and yesterday. I have to say I adore Nickolai Tesla! He is just so narcissistic, amoral and awesome :D But more importantly it has been brought to my attention that not eveyone knows what Sanctuary is about. Basically Will Zimmerman a police psychologist runs into the mysterious Doctor Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping) and gets drawn into a world of "abnormals" creatures which go beyond human comprehension. There are vampires, Jack the Ripper who can teleport himself, the original Doctor Watson, the invisible man, a cro-magnan and all sorts of other creatures.
In season two we see more about the cabal and their plans for Ashley and the Sanctuary. Although the show has definitely taken a darker turn this season and at one point I really thought the body count at the end of the episodes would be much larger than it was. |

Sometimes I really question my love for Owen Wilson. I mean I had no idea what the movie Drillbit Taylor was about, but I decided to watch it purely to enjoy Owen Wilson. It's not my usual kind of movie, being that I abhor cringe humour, but the movie was still enjoyable in parts. Basically a bunch of nerdy kids find themselves the targets of the school bully and decide to hire a bodyguard to protect them. There are a number of humourous interviews, including Adam Baldwin!, before they choose homeless Drillbit for the job. Drillbit basically uses the job as a chance to con money and items he can pawn from the kids. But gradually along the way he grows to care for the kids and helps teach them a few things here and there.
I had a few problems with the film however. The retardedness of the parents who chose to believe the sociopath over their own children, and the fact that the sociopath was able to run the school without anyone reporting him to the police, but aside from that it was fairly humourous and mildly enjoyable, but not something I'm likely to watch again. |

Okay, Christmas is over, I'm ready for a vacation! Yes I know, if it was that easy. But if you ARE going away this winter, how about a nice North Carolina vacation. Tiss the season...to lose weight that is! Now that the Holidays are coming to an end, it's time to start working on the extra weight that we picked up over Christmas. I don't think I'll wait till the New Year, at this rate I'll add on an extra 10 lbs before that! One of the worst things of being home all the time is that I'm always hungry, it's not so bad when you are at work and can keep your mind off of eating. So I hope to get a little extra help
from an appetite suppressant. I've looked around to find out what the best ones are, hey, it's right after Christmas, it's not like anybody has money to waste on products that don't work, right?

Well I decided to attempt to watch 21 again today. I'm trying to mow through my "To Watch" folder as much as possible before the new year. The appeal of Kevin Spacey and Lawrence Fishburn made me first attempt to watch this, but it ended up boring me too much. I think today it appealed a little more, although still not really my kinda thing.
It's a cute idea, professor at MIT takes a group of kids on a card-counting scam through the casinos of Las Vegas. There's just something so immoral about a University professor leading students into crime. But Kevin Spacey manages to make it all better.
Okay you know I'm not really into the movie when 15 minutes from the end I go and have a shower, WITHOUT turning the movie off! |

Okay so now you guys are going to think I have terrible taste, but I just couldn't like this movie. Louise warned me that I would find it boring and she was right. I just couldn't concentrate on the movie. Do any of my f-list with ADD have the same problem with movies? And did any of them enjoy the film? Or is it just me? The lack of dialogue meant I missed what was going on in the film because I kept getting distracted by other things. I had to read up on wikipedia as to what was happening. The second half of the film I managed to concentrate a little better, and I actually turned the computer and lights off for the last 15 minutes and watched it in isolation.
I can see where the movie would be great for young kids because the lack of dialogue allows them to follow the storyline, whereas all too often you have to explain what is going on with young kids in these kinds of movies. But it just didn't do it for me, sorry guys. |

| Sherlock Holmes |

Went to see Sherlock Holmes today with Cal and Lou and Rob. I LOVED it! I mean it was cheesy and insane, but oh so much fun. Robert Downey Junior played the brilliant but neurotic and oh so lacking in people skills Holmes so well. I think I may have fallen in love! And Jude Law was fabulous as the oh so proper Watson, and the relationship between the two was just so fun and the two actors just seemed to spark off each other. The story was classic Holmes, a Lord is captured by Holmes and Watson commiting human sacrifice and later rises from his grave. Holmes a sceptic to the end is drawn into the investigation and his ex-partner Watson finds himself drawn in despite his determination to have no more investigations. Mark Strong is fabulous as the sinister Lord Blackwood and Rachel McAdams is great as the mysterious Irene Adler, the only person to have outwitted Holmes.
I mean seriously people the movie is great fun. There are so many moments to laugh at the antics of Holmes, and even at times Watson, although be warned Jude Law plays the character very different to the one played in the old movies, although I always hated that version of Watson. There is some fabulous music, I'm pretty sure I recognised The Chieftans playing the Rocky Road to Dublin at one point, and amazing retellings of events. I truly adore what Guy Ritchie has done with the story here. |

| Saiyuki Disc 9 |

Even though these are still re-watches I'm finding more and more that I missed the first time around. Perhaps it's because I'm watching the dub this time and therefore have more time to look at other parts of the screen than the subtitles, or maybe the dub had just amended things slightly. Anyway I'm reaching the end of the first series, and I find myself confused as to whether I've missed one of my favourite episodes or not. There is one particular episode where this creature offers to take away everyone's nightmares/tears, but Goku refuses because his nightmare always ends with him meeting Sanzo. I really wanted to re-watch that episode. I had decided I would press on to the end tonight, however I've just realised I'm missing Discs 10-12! I have the first 3 discs of Reload, but those discs I didn't get, and I'm thinking that I decided because Rob had them not to bother, so now I need to ask Rob for the files, which means waiting :(
I adore the relationships between the Sanzo party and Kougaji's group, especially between Goujo and his brother, but the relationship between Sanzo and Goku is my favourite of all. I mean I adore Kou and he is definitely hot, but the Sanzo/Goku dynamic pushes so many of my tropes. Jerk who secretly cares, but covers it with being an ass is the main one. |

Well I have to concur with the general consensus. Arthur needs to know about Merlin's powers. I mean it's getting ridiculous. The boy has been knocked out so many times I'm sure there must be at least some brain damage there, and all these miraculous things he does right before he gets knocked unconcious? I mean c'mon, surely he's not that dumb?!

| The Forbidden Kingdom |

I remember wanting to see this movie when I first heard about it. Jackie Chan and Jet Li in a movie together? Of course I must see it. I've been a big fan of both, Jackie Chan since his Drunken Master and Police Story days, and Jet Li caught my attention in the Once Upon A Time in China series. I never got around to watching until tonight though. It was great fun.
Nothing to serious to the film, but a lot of great Kung Fu fight scenes, especially between Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Also some other great, but lesser known, actors - Crystal Liu Yifei (Xiaolongnü from Return of the Condor Heroes) played the gorgeous Sparrow, and Li Bingbing (Waiting Alone) playes the awesome white haired witch.
I have to confess that the fact that it was based on Journey to the West went completely over my head, despite the scenes from Monkey showing (totally am going to have to schedule a rewatch of that series) and the fact that they were journeying to rescue the Monkey King. I didn't even click that the kid's name was Tripitikas! But I bawled like a baby at the end, but that should come as no surprise!
One thing that I found interesting however was Sparrow's habit of speaking of herself in the third person, does anyone know if this is common/was common in ancient China? I know children in Japan often speak of themselves in the third person and I wonder if children in China do the same? |

| Merry Christmas! |

So it's all over for another year! I didn't get to bed till around 2:30 and woke up at 7:30, I got up and Brea was up and had her stocking opened, she had been in to wake Josh up but he hadn't made it out of bed yet. Josh and Doug got up and it was over in less than an hour. A lot less gifts under the tree but the kids were just as happy. It makes a big difference that Doug and I didn't exchange gifts this year.
We are having Christmas dinner at Nanny and Papa's then we'll be back home to chillax for the rest of the day.
Merry Christmas everyone, sending hugs and kisses to Port Alberni where the rest of my family are spending Christmas. xo

I did not enjoy this movie. It's not very often that I can say that, but I had no idea what was going on, and I just had no feelings for any of the characters. While I appreciate the interesting concept and the idea behind the movie, it just didn't reach out to me. I wasn't moved when anyone died. I spent most of the movie straining to see what the hell was going on and also to figure out who was who.
Maybe it would have been better at the movies where I could have concentrated better, but I had to read the wikipedia article to find out what happened in the movie, which is never a good sign! |

| Caprica - pilot |

I'm not sure what I was expecting from the pilot to Caprica, but it was pretty interesting. I liked how different it was from Battlestar Galactica, but I still can't see it necessarily drawing more of a female audience than BSG. But then i enjoyed BSG and I'm a female, so who knows what they mean. I particularly liked the hedonistic decadent style of the opening, where it looked as though Caprican society deserved to be destroyed. I also particularly enjoyed the race tensions, as I've always been a fan of watching the way the issue of race is examined in television and movies. Perhaps it's because race is so meaningless to me, that I find it fascinating that others are so caught up in it and the meanings behind it.
Anyway it was interesting to see the actress who played Atia in Rome in another role, even if it did kind of feel like she was channeling Atia, that was perhaps simply me projecting! I look forward to watching the series in January when it starts :D |

I put off watching this for ages, because I've never been a big sit-com fan, but as I watched the episodes today I was laughing my ass off. They are brilliant! I mean the concept of Lem fathering a child on Veronica gives me the creeps, but also the genetic compatibility testing, and all the other crazy stuff that Veridian Dynamic does just keeps me coming back for more! |
